A Comparison of a Full Bed and a Double Bed

There are many different sizes of mattresses to cater to a sleeper’s need. Will the bed be used by a child, teenager, or adult? Is it meant for one person or a couple? Do you anticipate your children climbing in the middle of the night? Do you need space for a furry friend or two?

All of these questions are important to consider when choosing a mattress size, and is a main cause for confusion. Many people don’t realize there is a difference between a king size mattress and a California King size mattresses. Even more surprising is that many believe that a full mattress and a queen mattress are the same. But, what truly confuses people is the difference between a full size mattress and a double mattress.

We’ll let you in on a secret. A full size mattress and a double size mattress are the same size! The dimensions of a double bed and/or a full bed are 54 inches in width and 75 inches in length. Sometimes a full bed is called a double bed to depict that, while smaller than a queen bed, a full can still sleep two people. Double beds, or more commonly known as full beds, are usually found in dorms or in guest rooms as they allow for more space in smaller rooms.

Full beds are also known for being great kids beds because they don’t take up too much space. They are also popular as a children’s bed because they allow for room to grow. A twin bed can quickly become too cramped for your quickly growing child, but a full bed could last them well into their teenage years.
